LEGO Ideas Launches Official Star Wars and Marvel Crossover Building Challenge
LEGO has launched a first-of-its-kind “Hope Assembles” challenge on its Ideas platform, inviting fans to design brick-built crossovers between the Star Wars and Marvel universes. Announced during New York Comic Con 2026, the competition marks the first official time the LEGO Group has sanctioned a mashup between these two major licenses for a fan-driven building event.
The challenge is organized into three distinct categories for builders to explore:
- Vehicle Fusion: Combining iconic ships or transports, such as an X-Wing with Iron Man technology.
- Character Fusion: Creating hybrid figures or scenes featuring heroes and villains from both franchises.
- Scene Fusion: Merging memorable locations or moments from the two cinematic and comic worlds.
The fusion categories include vehicle, character, and scene mashups.
Builders have until November 12, 2026, to submit their designs through the LEGO Ideas portal. Following the submission window, a fan-voting phase is scheduled to begin on December 8, 2026.
The building challenge serves as a direct tie-in to a major publishing event. According to Marvel, the comic miniseries Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles will debut in January 2027. The series, which was expanded from five issues to six during an NYCC panel, is written by Kevin Smith with artwork by David Marquez.
Crossover Continuity and Plot
The narrative foundation for the crossover involves a reality-shattering spell that allows characters from Marvel’s Earth-616 continuity to witness and interact with the events of the original 1977 film, Star Wars: A New Hope. The timing of the project coincides with the 50th anniversary of the film’s release.
While the events are considered canon to the primary Marvel Comics universe (Earth-616), they are likely non-canon for the Star Wars galaxy. Plot points revealed during the announcement include high-stakes interactions such as Magneto using his powers to attempt to hold back the Death Star.
Variant cover art for the series has already provided visual inspiration for the LEGO challenge. These illustrations include depictions of Darth Vader wielding the Infinity Gauntlet and Luke Skywalker teaming up with Spider-Man, including a variant cover by artist Alex Ross.
Submissions for the building challenge are expected to reflect this “reality-shattering” theme, allowing fans to experiment with how the technology, powers, and aesthetics of both universes might coexist in physical form.
