I went looking through my saved links the other day for posts that are actively someone liking something. Article like 5 things I love about Astro or Anatomy of my favorite API. I found suspiciously little of it, which makes me think there is suspiciously little of it being written, as I’m the type that…
You can kinda smell a vibe-coded app these days. TypingSVG has that odor, but like… in a good way? An app like this absolutely should exist. Someone needed it, and how instead of it just being some little tool they’ve tucked away for themselves or thrown away, they tossed it up on some inexpensive hosting…
Dave has this classic idea for a Web Components Sommelier. Like many of Dave’s ideas, it’s equal parts joke and brilliance. The idea is a person with deep knowledge of an absolute ton of different Web Components who can suggest ones that do just the right thing in any situation. Like a wine sommelier who…
There’s a failure mode in agent systems that never shows up as an error. The agent works well for twenty turns, then gets subtly worse — forgets a constraint from earlier, repeats a tool call it already made, contradicts something it said. No exception, no alert, no obvious cause. What happened is that context filled…
I have a feeling that the stuff you learn riiiiight as you are getting into all this making websites stuff sticks with you harder than what you learned, say, yesterday. That stuff, whatever it is, feels like foundational knowledge that ingrains itself. Other things you learn are in relation to that foundation. As such, it…
Wasn’t it great — nay, amazing – the day we got a native HTML element? It’s, what now, nearly ten years old? Even so, I always find myself looking up how it works, when to use it, ideas for styling it, and whatnot. There’s a lot of nuance to this seemingly little piece of web…
Stephen and Chris jump on the podcast to talk about our (ahem, super cool) deployment feature. Any Pen can be a website! Well, they kinda are already, but you know what I mean. If you’re a PRO user all you do is click a button and the Pen is instantly deployed at a *.codepen.app website….
The CSS border-image property is one of those features we take for granted. And it’s not new at all! In fact, Andy Clarke has a fairly recent article that “revisits” the property and shows just how creative we can get with it. Go read that article — it’s worth it. The TL;DR is that we…
People now use voice in many apps. They use voice to search. They ask phones for help. They use smart speakers at home. They also use voice to send messages or find places. Because of this, more developers are adding voice to apps. An ai voice agent for developers can listen to a user, understand…
I’m with Den Odell here in HTML’s Best Kept Secret: The <output> Tag. I have a real affinity for that tag, perhaps because of it’s lovely balance pairing with <input>. If you’ve got any sort of value you’re displaying that is derived from inputs, it’s the perfect tag. Not just semantically, but accessibly too. Most…
