J.J. McCarthy Makes NFL History In Debut
A lot of NFL fans might be surprised after the “Monday Night Football” game between the Minnesota Vikings and the Chicago Bears.
The Bears were dominating the Vikings at halftime, and it seemed like the Minnesota offense was stale.
That all changed in the second half, especially in the fourth quarter, when the Vikings came alive, storming back to win the game.
J.J. McCarthy looked like a completely different quarterback in the fourth quarter, throwing for two touchdowns and rushing for another.
This felt like a historic night in real time, and, as Real Sports noted on X, it was the first time a player recorded three fourth-quarter touchdowns in his NFL debut.

McCarthy’s overall stat line wasn’t that impressive, going 13-for-20 for 143 yards, but he made it count when it mattered most.
Justin Jefferson and Aaron Jones Sr. were nonexistent for most of the game, but they were the recipients of McCarthy’s fourth-quarter touchdown passes, coming up big in the crucial moments.
Head coach Kevin O’Connell must have provided an inspiring speech at halftime, as his team responded after the lackluster start.
Fans got to watch McCarthy develop in front of their eyes, inspiring his teammates.
It should give them confidence going into the rest of the season, knowing they can come from behind if needed.
