At Least 6 Dead After Helicopter crashes in Hudson River in New York City
At least six dead after a helicopetr crashed into the Hudson River off Manhattan, the NYPD confirmed. According to NYPD’s post on X, “Expect emergency vehicles and traffic delays in the surrounding areas.”
Officials confirmed the crash was first reported shortly after 3 p.m. ET on Thursday.

Videos posted on social media shows the aircraft Bell 206 mostly submerged, upside down in the water as police were seen nearby with police helicopter overhead.
The rescue craft were nearing the end of a long maintenance pier for a ventilation tower that served the Holland Tunnel. Fire trucks and other emergency vehicles were seen on nearby streets, their lights flashing.

The skies over Manhattan are frequently packed with planes and helicopters, both private leisure aircraft and commercial and tourist flights. Manhattan has multiple helipads that transport corporate executives and others to various locations throughout the city.
Multiple crashes have occurred over the years, including a 2009 collision between a plane and a tourist helicopter over the Hudson River, which killed nine passengers, and a 2018 crash of a charter helicopter offering “open door” trips that plummeted down into the East River, killing five people.
