Stockholm to host the World News Media Congress in 2027

The World News Media Congress 2027 will bring together editors, publishers, product leaders, and innovators from around the world to explore the future of journalism and media. Hosted in one of the world’s most digitally advanced media markets, the Congress will spotlight how news organisations are driving innovation in digital subscriptions, AI, audience engagement, newsroom transformation, and trusted journalism.

The gathering comes at a pivotal moment for the global news industry. As technology rapidly reshapes how information is discovered and consumed, media companies are adapting to a new reality in which journalism is increasingly distributed through platforms, algorithms, and AI-driven experiences. Against this backdrop, the Congress will focus on the strategies, products, and partnerships needed to build sustainable journalism businesses and strengthen trust with audiences in the years ahead.

“Across the Nordic region, we see some of the world’s most innovative and forward-looking media companies successfully transforming their businesses while staying deeply committed to quality journalism,” said Stig Ørskov, CEO of WAN-IFRA. “With Bonnier News and Amedia as partners, the Congress in Stockholm will be an inspiring global meeting place focused on solutions, innovation, and the future of trusted journalism.”

“We are proud to welcome the global news media community to Stockholm,” said Anders Eriksson, CEO of Bonnier News. “The Nordic countries have become a leading laboratory for digital transformation in news media – from subscription growth and AI development to newsroom innovation and audience engagement. We look forward to sharing experiences, ideas, and inspiration with colleagues from around the world.”

Unique opportunity for the global industry

“The Congress comes at a time when collaboration and innovation across the industry have never been more important,” said Anders Opdahl, CEO of Amedia. “The Nordic media markets have shown that it is possible to combine strong local journalism, digital growth, and high levels of trust. Stockholm 2027 will be a unique opportunity for the global industry to explore new ideas, partnerships, and solutions together.”

The announcement was made in Marseille during the 2026 Congress, where more than 1,300 media leaders from 65 countries gathered to shape the future of news media.

Since its inception in 1948, the World News Media Congress has served as the leading international platform for dialogue, cooperation, and innovation in the news industry. The Congress aims to promote quality journalism, defend press freedom, and shape the future of news media on a global scale.

Representing more than 20,000 publications and 3,000 companies across over 120 countries, WAN-IFRA organises the annual Congress, bringing together top executives, publishers, editors, and media innovators from across the global news industry.
