Insider Reveals ‘Strong Support’ To Retire Knicks Legend’s Number

The New York Knicks have been home to many historic players, which means they only retire the jerseys of true legends.

Right now, there is speculation about Carmelo Anthony’s jersey rising to the rafters in the future.

Ian Begley said that the possibility is being discussed, but a decision hasn’t been made.

“I know there was strong support internally within MSG to retire Anthony’s number. In checking around about this over the past couple of weeks, I can say that there remains strong support internally for retiring the number. Again, I can’t say with 100 percent certainty that the Knicks will retire his number. But the internal discussions about the topic have continued in recent weeks. The decision to retire — or not retire — Anthony’s number will ultimately be made by owner James Dolan,” per Ian Begley.

Anthony came to the Knicks after spending his first eight seasons with the Denver Nuggets.

During his seven years in New York, Anthony averaged 24.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.2 assists.

He earned an All-Star appearance every season and was the clear leader of the team.

Anthony and his Knicks may not have ever won a championship, and he may not have retired in New York, but the fans still adore him.

It’s not just because of his time with the team, because New York fans also admire his years in college at Syracuse.

He has been playing magnificent basketball for the state since he was a teenager, and New Yorkers have not forgotten that.

There are only a few modern Knicks players who have had as big an impact as Anthony, so it would be surprising if they don’t retire his jersey someday.
