Alex Caruso Says 1 Thunder Player Is A ‘Unique Defender’
The Oklahoma City Thunder are NBA champions for numerous reasons, especially because they can rule a game on both ends of the court.
Their offense is incredible, but their defense is also sensational.
Speaking to OKC Thunder Wire, Alex Caruso praised Cason Wallace, calling him one of the best young defenders in the league and saying that he’s already done so much during his short career.
“He’s a unique defender. He has special physical abilities a lot of people in the league don’t have. He blocked more shots in a season that I think I have in my career up to that point,” Caruso said of Wallace. “There’s no teaching aspect to that. We don’t go over that in practice. That’s just something he’s good at and does on his own.”
Wallace has only known success so far, averaging 7.5 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.0 assists on 48.2 percent from the field during his two seasons.
He’s able to score, but what really sets him apart is his dogged defense.
No matter who he is playing against, Wallace squares off against them and is absolutely relentless.
He has learned from players like Caruso and Lu Dort, who are also fantastic defenders, but a lot of what makes Wallace special is because of instinct.
It’s like he’s a natural defender who is just born to play like this.
He’s now a champion, but Wallace wants to help his team get much better.
There are a lot of people who feel the Thunder will only improve in the years ahead.
They claimed their title, but the Thunder are looking to keep evolving, partly because of the hard work of young up-and-comers like Wallace.
