Latest Odds Reveal Betting Favorite To Become New Giants Coach

The New York Giants have finally chosen to move on from Brian Daboll. Following another tough loss and a big hit on prized rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, the organization ultimately chose to pull the plug on the former Buffalo Bills’ offensive coordinator.
Now, Giants OC Mike Kafka will take the reins as interim head coach for the remainder of the year. And even though he may draw some consideration as a full-time replacement, there will be some bigger names in the mix.
According to a report by Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, that list includes Mike McCarthy. More than that, he’s reportedly the leading candidate to take the reins of the team:
“In more than 17 seasons as coach of the Packers and Cowboys, Mike McCarthy has a record of 185-123-2. Since 2012, the Giants have a record of 83-147-1. It’s no surprise, then, that McCarthy is the early betting favorite to become the next head coach of the Giants, at 7-1. Interim Giants coach Mike Kafka is just behind McCarthy at 8-1, along with Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak,” Florio wrote.
That might not necessarily be what Giants fans wanted to hear right now. While he has a Super Bowl win to his name and a winning head coaching record, McCarthy has often gotten on the wrong side of the fans with his decision-making and play-calling.
His biggest detractors often credited the Green Bay Packers’ success to Aaron Rodgers, stating that they won in spite of McCarthy. Then, things weren’t much different with the Dallas Cowboys.
That being said, offenses have usually been solid under McCarthy, and while he’s often left plenty to be desired in the playoffs, he usually does well in the regular season. He’s more experienced than some of the other candidates.
The Giants will have plenty of time to make their decision. And while GM Joe Schoen is equally responsible for the state of the team – if not more – he’s reportedly going to lead the search for another head coach.
