Details Emerge About Aidan Hutchinson’s Contract Situation

The Detroit Lions have spent plenty of cash to keep their star-studded roster together.

However, they have yet to reach an agreement with one of their best players.

According to a report by Adam Schefter of ESPN, they’ve had some ‘positive discussion’ with Aidan Hutchinson and his camp about a new contract.

“Lions and Aidan Hutchinson have had positive contract conversations, but are not expected to reach a deal before the season starts today, per sources,” Schefter posted on X.

However, they’re still not expected to agree to anything before Sunday’s season opener.

The Lions will travel to Green Bay, Wisconsin, to kick off the season with a high-flying divisional matchup with the Green Bay Packers.

Hutchinson has been one of the best defensive players in the game since the Lions took him out of Michigan with the No. 2 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

He’s about to enter the fourth year of his five-year rookie contract.

Hutchinson was one of the leading candidates for Defensive Player of the Year last season before a leg injury forced him to watch from the sidelines.

The Lions just gave fellow former first-round pick Jameson Williams a contract extension of his own.

They also broke the bank to extend WR Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jared Goff, DL Alim NcNeill, S Kerby Joseph, and OTs Penei Sewell and Taylor Decker.

Continuity matters, and they want to compete not only in the present but also for many more years to come.

They have a young and promising core of players that’s only going to keep getting better over time, and given their relationship, it should be just a matter of time before they get a deal done.
