DeMeco Ryans Reveals Plans For Rookie Offensive Lineman

The Houston Texans bolstered their roster with several promising selections in the 2025 NFL Draft, with offensive lineman Aireontae Ersery standing out as one of their best additions.

Taken with the No. 48 overall pick, Ersery represents a potential answer to the ongoing offensive line questions that have plagued the team.

Though the 2025 season remains months away, head coach DeMeco Ryans appears to have already formulated plans for integrating the rookie into the lineup.

“Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said he envisions Aireontae Ersery beginning at tackle, not guard at this point,” Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 wrote on X.

The second-round investment in Ersery could yield substantial long-term benefits for Houston’s offensive front.

His selection immediately triggered speculation about his eventual place along the line.

While Ryans hasn’t ruled out Ersery developing versatility across positions as he matures, the current strategy places him on the edge rather than inside.

This approach aligns with Ersery’s collegiate experience, having anchored Minnesota’s offensive line as their starting left tackle for three seasons.

Standing 6-foot-6 and weighing 331 pounds, Ersery brings imposing physical dimensions and particularly promising run-blocking abilities to the NFL.

Despite that potential, Ersery faces significant competition for playing time in Houston.

The Texans added veterans Cam Robinson and Trent Brown this offseason, creating a crowded tackle situation.

Whether the rookie can surge past established pros remains uncertain, but he’ll certainly have an opportunity to showcase his abilities when training camp opens and preseason action begins.
