WAN-IFRA Announces Second Cohort of Newsroom AI Catalyst in Latin America

Following its successful first edition in Latin America, which brought together 16 leading publishers, this new cohort will unite an additional 13 media organisations from the region for an intensive three-month accelerator.

Sponsored by OpenAI, the AI research and deployment company behind ChatGPT, the Newsroom AI Catalyst supports 128 newsrooms worldwide across four key regions: Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and South Asia.

“The Newsroom AI Catalyst continues to create valuable opportunities for Latin American newsrooms to integrate AI into their editorial and operational processes,” said Olga Britto, Director for WAN-IFRA LATAM. “We look forward to collaborating with this new cohort and anticipate the same high-quality projects and achievements that distinguished the inaugural edition, together with OpenAI and Fathm to support regional publishers.”

A Programme Designed to Drive AI Adoption in Journalism

Participating news organisations will benefit from expert guidance, peer collaboration, and practical workshops addressing AI’s role in content creation, newsroom efficiency, and audience engagement. Each newsroom assembles a multidisciplinary team to explore AI-driven transformations and develop solutions tailored to the challenges and opportunities of Latin America’s media landscape.

AI: A Strategic Imperative for Newsrooms

The integration of AI in journalism is now a strategic necessity. AI can enhance journalistic workflows, personalise content, and improve data-driven reporting, helping news organisations optimise operations and engage audiences more effectively.

At the same time, AI adoption comes with challenges such as algorithmic bias, misinformation risks, and ethical considerations. This programme equips newsrooms with the knowledge and strategies to implement AI responsibly, ensuring technology enhances rather than compromises journalistic integrity.
