Sustina wins inaugural climate culture innovation grant for story-driven circular economy platform

Circular solutions exist in the Philippines, along with a growing demand for sustainable services and supplies. But “there is a disconnect between the merchants and the market, with circular businesses operating under the radar and within their own communities,” according to Sustina, the women-led, Philippine-based non-profit impact organisation whose innovative solution has garnered them the inaugural Climate Culture Innovation grant.

The grant will facilitate the launch, later this year, of Sustina’s Circular Solutions Map – a project that enables them to make that connection by integrating Scale360’s directory of circular-economy organisations into the Sustina editorial platform, connecting readers directly to vetted entrepreneurs across the Philippines who are committed to sustainable solutions.

The result will be a living, story-driven map of grassroots initiatives.

“We are proud to support Sustina on this idea, which drives innovation with grassroots impact at a critical moment for climate journalism. As news organisations navigate shifting economic realities, there is a clear need to rethink the products and services that sustain it,” said Syli Director of Growth and Innovation, Shereen Daver.

The cXc Innovation Fund launched last year by WAN-IFRA partner climateXchange (cXc), a Syli brand, to support climate news innovators. Following the call for pitches and judging process, the grant was awarded at the recent Digital Media Asia Awards in Manila.

“The cXc bespoke mentoring approach and commitment to radical collaboration are designed to help media organisations move beyond expected models and embrace entrepreneurial thinking,” adds Daver. “This is what the Sustina idea does so well: a B2B offering with regenerative thinking underpinning the approach.

“These awards are about revaluing media, placing innovation, audience needs, and sustainability at the core so that news organisations can build resilient futures while delivering meaningful climate coverage that truly serves their communities.”

Congratulations to Sustina from the cXc and WAN-IFRA teams.
