Patterson signed a two-year contract with the Steelers before the 2024 season.

He claimed to be “old and washed up” in joking about his situation on X.

Patterson followed Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith to Pittsburgh after their days together with the Atlanta Falcons.

Yet, the decision isn’t surprising, given that the team added running backs Kaleb Johnson and Kenneth Gainwell to their roster this offseason.

Patterson didn’t practice through the first four days of training camp as he was dealing with an undisclosed injury.

He struggled with an ankle injury after a strong start with the Steelers, and once he lost his explosiveness, he failed to make his usual impact on the offense and special teams.

The Steelers have Jaylen Warren at the top of their running back depth chart.

They also have Trey Sermon and Evan Hull on their 90-man roster, but they’re unlikely to make the 53-man roster if the others stay healthy.

As for Patterson, this might be the end of the line for him, as he’s 34 years old and coming off a disappointing season.
