Rams Sign Former UFL Kicker

The Los Angeles Rams are heading toward a tough Week 10 matchup against the rival San Francisco 49ers.

While it would appear that all is well, one issue so far this season has been the disappointing performance of kicker Joshua Karty, who has missed five of 15 field goal attempts and three extra points.

That is a major step back from missing five of 34 field goal attempts last season.

After Karty missed two kicks in their Week 9 win against the New Orleans Saints, the Rams decided to make a move and signed a former UFL kicker.

“The Rams are signing K Harrison Mevis — a.k.a. ‘The Thiccer Kicker’ — who stands 6-foot, 242 pounds. He went 20-of-21 on field goals with the UFL’s Birmingham Stallions,” Ari Meirov wrote on X.

Rams head coach Sean McVay was adamant that the kicking woes can’t continue, and he placed the blame on himself and no player in particular.

It was a classy move, as it would have been easy to point the finger at Karty, whose job may be in jeopardy if he misses a kick against the 49ers.

Mevis has spent time with the New York Jets and Carolina Panthers as a member of their practice squads and as a training camp participant, though he has yet to appear in an NFL regular-season game.

As a playoff contender, the Rams aren’t standing pat, and it could only be a matter of time before Mevis gets to make his debut.
