The system of conduct and Greece’s opponents

The early qualifiers are the first phase before the main qualifiers and are held in a total of six continental zones: Europe, Africa, Asia, Middle East, North and South America.

19 countries participate in the European zone, with 16 of them securing qualification to the next phase in March.

Greece were placed in a particularly challenging group, facing Portugal (bronze medalists), as well as Spain, Great Britain and Albania, in a five-team group.

How is qualification for the European qualifiers judged?

A total of three groups of five teams and one group of four are formed. From each group, all but the last team advance directly to the main qualifying phase.

The teams that finish last in their groups will participate in a Final Four, where only the winning team will secure the last ticket to the qualifiers in March.

Matches in both the group stages and the Final Four will be played over two legs, with the final points difference being the main ranking criterion.
