LeBron James Could Make Surprising Career Move This Offseason

The Los Angeles Lakers couldn’t have dreamed of a better scenario.

They weren’t looking to trade Anthony Davis, much less get Luka Doncic.

The sole thought of getting a player of Doncic’s caliber at age 25 was almost impossible to fathom, especially considering he never hinted at discontent with the organization or a desire to leave.

Now, with Dallas Mavericks’ GM Nico Harrison shipping him to the City of Angels, the whole picture has changed.

According to a report by ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, Doncic’s arrival might be just what LeBron James needed to extend his stay with the Lakers and the league.

As noted by Evan Sidery, James has a $52.7 million player option for the upcoming season, and he could now sign an extension with the team.

Most reports – and even his own words – suggested that James was preparing to call it quits.

Most people predicted that he would either retire this year or the next one.

Now, with a 25-year-old superstar by his side to lead the way, that doesn’t have to be the case.

They both have similar playing styles, and Doncic has shown that he can handle both primary playmaking and scoring duties for his team.

That will enable James to finally take a step back and remain fresh and healthy for when it matters most.

With his younger son, Bryce, eligible for the 2026 NBA Draft and James still going strong, teaming up with his two sons is now realistically on the table.
