Kevin Durant Speaks Out About Rockets’ Early Struggles
It wasn’t supposed to be this way for the Houston Rockets.
After a painful defeat by the Oklahoma City Thunder in their opening game of the season, the Rockets lost again on Friday when they were taken down 115-111 by the Detroit Pistons.
Following that, Kevin Durant spoke to the press and said that everyone involved with his team is demanding a lot more.
“Coaching staff is pissed off, players are pissed off,” Durant said. “We want a better outcome, and it’s early, too. So for us to feel that way I like that kind of energy.”
Durant did his best during the game, posting 37 points on 9-of-18 from the field.
Every starter for Houston was in double digits, with Alperen Sengun scoring 17 points, Jabari Smith Jr. and Steven Adams contributing 11 each, and Amen Thompson putting up 10 points.
The team was looking good in numerous ways, just not good enough.
There’s no doubt that Houston has a slew of talent, which is why they were so deeply feared by other teams during the summer.
Many fans expected them to tear through their opponents right out of the gate, but it hasn’t been that way.
But according to Durant, the team isn’t comfortable with that and wants to improve right away.
Durant is in a unique position because he could try to take over the team and carry them, but that wouldn’t be great for their long-term plans.
Instead, he should be focused on leading his teammates and being a leader.
Durant is still finding his footing with this team, and they are obviously working out some kinks.
The season hasn’t started like they wanted, and now the Rockets are looking to pivot and change directions.
