Eugenio Chacarra Claims Race to Dubai Lead with DP World India Championship Win

Eugenio Chacarra secured the 2026 DP World India Championship title on Sunday, a victory that impacted the Race to Dubai standings. Finishing with a 21-under-par total of 267, the Spaniard secured the win with only three events remaining on the DP World Tour schedule.

The win marks Chacarra’s third DP World Tour title of the 2026 season and completes a rapid ascent for a player who only earned full tour status in 2025. The triumph at DLF Golf and Country Club was a test of endurance, as weather delays forced Chacarra to play a Sunday marathon. He first completed a sensational 9-under-par 63 in his third round before returning to the course to shoot a final-round 70, finishing two strokes clear of the field.

Chacarra overcame a fractured toe to compete at the DLF Golf and Country Club.

Overcoming Injury and Personal Loss

Chacarra’s performance was underscored by significant physical and emotional hurdles. He competed in New Delhi while nursing a fractured toe sustained less than two weeks before the tournament. Additionally, Chacarra dedicated the victory to his grandfather, who passed away 10 days prior to the start of the event.

Analysis of his play throughout the week showed remarkable consistency despite the injury. His 63 on Sunday morning effectively distanced him from the chasing pack, providing enough of a cushion to withstand the pressure of the final 18 holes.

Impact on the Race to Dubai

Patrick Reed, who had held the No. 1 spot in the Race to Dubai for seven months, finished the tournament tied for 23rd at 8-under par. The battle for the season-long title and the lucrative bonus pool enters its final stretch.

New Zealand’s Daniel Hillier finished solo second at 19-under par, failing to catch Chacarra despite a late charge. Adrian Meronk and Angel Hidalgo finished in a tie for third at 15-under par. Rory McIlroy, another high-profile name in the field, struggled to find momentum and finished tied for 42nd at 4-under par.

The DP World Tour now moves into the final phase of the “Back 9” swing. The schedule continues with the Genesis Championship in South Korea, followed by the high-stakes playoff events: the Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship and the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. In addition to the season title, the top 10 finishers in the final Race to Dubai standings who are not already exempt will earn dual membership and PGA Tour cards for the 2027 season.
