Chase Daniel Urges Titans To Make Offensive Change With Cam Ward

Cam Ward entered the NFL as the first overall pick in 2025, but his rookie season has fallen short of expectations.

The Tennessee Titans started 1-5 and became the first team this season to dismiss its head coach after firing Brian Callahan.

Now the franchise faces critical decisions about how to structure its offense around Ward moving forward.

Former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel believes the Titans must identify Ward’s strengths and build around them.

“Well, they just have to figure out what he does best offensively,” Daniel said. “The new head coach you’re bringing in, I think you have to have an offensive mind. […] If I’m the Titans, you’ve got to figure out what the heck you’re doing, because you fire, you hire, you let go of (Mike) Vrabel, and it’s just the ownership and the GM and everyone like that, they just don’t know what they want. You have to pick and stick with a guy that you trust that is going to get the best out of Cam Ward.”

He emphasized the importance of hiring an offensive-minded head coach who can unlock the rookie’s potential.

The team’s organizational direction has raised concerns about whether ownership and management have a clear vision for success.

Daniel pointed to specific issues with Tennessee’s current offensive approach.

Ward has been forced into pass-heavy concepts that don’t match his skill set, despite thriving in RPO schemes during his time with the Miami Hurricanes.

The receivers have also struggled with drops, creating additional obstacles for the young quarterback’s development.

The Titans named Mike McCoy as interim head coach, and he plans to tailor the offense around Ward.

McCoy brings valuable experience working with elite quarterbacks like Peyton Manning and Philip Rivers, giving him credibility in building systems around top talent.

Tennessee will likely experiment with different schemes and personnel groupings as McCoy evaluates what maximizes Ward’s abilities week to week.
