Brian Baldinger Makes MVP Case For Eagles Star
The Philadelphia Eagles made a big statement in Week 8.
They defeated the New York Giants handily and looked like a legitimate Super Bowl contender again.
Notably, a lot of that had to do with quarterback Jalen Hurts, who was efficient and put up points.
With that in mind, NFL analyst Brian Baldinger wondered whether Hurts should be an NFL MVP candidate.
“Eagles [Jalen Hurts] has 9 incompletions and 7 TD passes in last 2 weeks. MVP?” Baldinger wrote on X.

Of course, those numbers are impressive, but that doesn’t mean that he should be an MVP candidate.
The Eagles’ offense has been pedestrian at best for most of the season, and Hurts has failed to make some easy throws when his first read isn’t available.
He isn’t called on to carry the offense when running back Saquon Barkley is at his best, but he did throw four TD passes against the Giants despite generating only 179 yards through the air.
Also, the fact that the Eagles’ offense looked much better without A.J. Brown on the field also raised some questions about whether they should move on from the wide receiver, given that Hurts has been either unwilling or unable to target him more often than not.
Whatever the case, Hurts deserves credit for what the Eagles have done in winning six of eight games this season.
From that to being an MVP candidate, that’s another story.
He hasn’t had a better season than Drake Maye, Patrick Mahomes or Jonathan Taylor, and he’ll have to do much more than that to enter the race.
