Big win for Maccabi: 89-83 against Baskonia
Leaf and Horde led the Israelis back to success
Maccabi Tel Aviv achieved a particularly important victory, snapping a four-game losing streak with an 89-83 final against Baskonia at the Aleksandar Nikolic Hall.
Leaf in a leading role
Jimmer Leaf had his best performance of the year, scoring 19 points, pulling down 7 rebounds and dishing out 2 assists, while also having 2 steals. Impressive 3/3 from the three-point line, giving Maccabi solid solutions on offense.
Double threat from Hord
Jalen Hord added a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Clark, Walker, Sorkin and Dowtin also finished in double figures, contributing to the team’s offensive plan.
Maccabi finished the game shooting 45.5% from the field and 79.2% from the field, making the most of their offensive rebounds that turned into valuable second points.
The evolution of the fight
The first half was balanced, with the Israelis going to the locker room with a 53-43 lead, after a productive second quarter (28-25).
Baskonia responded in the third period, with Luagu-Cambaro and the rest bringing the game to a tie (71-71). However, Maccabi came on strong in the fourth quarter, regained control and “cleaned up” the game at critical points.
The continuation in the EuroLeague
With this result, Maccabi improved to 3-8, equaling the record of Baskonia who fell to the same 3-8.
The Israelis will look to build on the positive result when they next face Virtus Bologna on Friday, while Baskonia host Bayern Munich.
