WAN-IFRA honours winners of Digital Media Awards Americas

WAN-IFRA’s Digital Media Awards Americas recognise innovation and excellence in the media industry across the region.

In the 2026 edition, the competition brought together well over 100 initiatives, reflecting the dynamism, creativity and commitment of media organisations to developing products, formats and strategies that respond to the current challenges of the sector. The awards ceremony took place in Bogotá on 15 April, as part of our Digital Media LATAM event.

Over the years, these awards have recognised the work of teams driving digital transformation, strengthening relationships with audiences and developing sustainable business models, while preserving the essence of journalism and the importance of information in challenging times for the region.

  • 116 projects from across the Americas were evaluated, highlighting innovation in product, audiences, artificial intelligence and business models within the media industry.
  • Media organisations from North America, Central America and South America were recognised, reflecting the international and competitive nature of the Digital Media Awards Americas.
  • Winners will now advance to the Digital Media Awards Worldwide 2026, where they will compete for global recognition among the best initiatives in the industry

Winners by category

In the Best News Website or App Relaunch category, recognised at Digital Media LATAM 2026 in Bogotá, Colombia, New El Tiempo News App by Casa Editorial El Tiempo (Colombia) was awarded international/national winner, and New website – A Redação (Brazil) was named regional/local winner.

In Best in Countering Disinformation and Best Emerging News Providers, the project Indicator (Canada) was distinguished as international and national winner, standing out for its focus on trust and editorial innovation.

The award for Best Reader Revenue Strategy was presented to UOL+: The Lifestyle Bundle Strategy by UOL (Brazil), while in Best AI-driven News Product, Format or Strategy, the recognition went to Cheatsheet by The New York Times (United States), a tool that combines artificial intelligence, investigative journalism and data.

In the Best Newsletter category, Unhedged by the Financial Times (United States) was recognised for its editorial proposal, and in Best in Audience Engagement, the winners were Dave Jorgenson Goes Independent by Local News International (United States) and UOL 360° Ecosystem by UOL (Brazil).

In Most Innovative Digital Product, Vale Vivo Project by Grupo A Hora (Brazil) was recognised as regional/local winner, and UOL Flash: The Social News Feed by UOL (Brazil) as international/national winner.

In the content categories, Benito en PR by El Vocero de Puerto Rico was awarded regional/local winner in Best Use of Video, while How women protect Mexico City’s ancient island farms by Mongabay and Associated Press (Mexico) received the international/national award. In Best Use of Audio, the trophy went to The Outlaw Ocean Podcast and CBC Podcasts (United States).

Meanwhile, Best Data Visualisation recognised Así volaron una fábrica de armas en la Argentina para ocultar pruebas de corrupción by LA NACION (Argentina), and in Best Marketing Campaign for a News Brand, the award went to O GLOBO 100 by O GLOBO (Brazil).

A reflection of the industry’s evolution

The awarded projects reflect the key trends shaping the industry today: the strategic use of artificial intelligence, revenue diversification, innovation in formats, and the strengthening of audience relationships. Each initiative stands out for its ability to generate impact, deliver value, and adapt to a constantly evolving environment.

A global competition

The winners of this edition automatically advance to the Digital Media Awards Worldwide 2026, where they will compete with top projects from other regions on a global stage, further elevating recognition for excellence in digital media.
